I had the novel experience today of discovering that someone set up a Twitter account for the sole purpose of harassing me personally. I’m not sure what exactly I did to deserve this honor, but I’m amused by the personal attention, since I’m hardly a Twitter celebrity. Perhaps it’s someone I know, conducting a social experiment to see how I’ll react. Ah, the wonder of online anonymity.

And now there’s a Twitter account created just to offer me a compliment. I’m happy to be catalyzing the rapid growth of Twitter’s user base.

I think the @cyc_ai bot may have become self-aware and went rogue.
On the up side though, for every one of those jackasses, you have hundreds of people who feel quite the opposite.

Yeah, it will take a lot more than that to turn me off of Twitter. I’m just curious how common an occurrence this is. In this case, it’s pretty clear that this is a real person, not a bot. Beyond that, it’s a mystery. I suppose I should take harassment more seriously, but this seems harmless, and I’m more amused / intrigued.
